O My Goodness

I’ll show a painting, it’s facsimile, a book and a movie all titled, O My Goodness, at Independent Curators International Benefit Exhibition (New York) September, 2011. The painting was painted twenty times (“compounded”) with different images related to world religions. Between each image the painting was ground and polished like a palimpsest. Each state of the painting was photographed along with cropped details that I determined to be independent compositions. This resulted in 3,789 images that I made into a flip book-like movie that is fourteen minutes long. The full-frame images of the religions illustrate the book with a text of edited studio notes. O My Goodness is a singularity of great multiplicity. The presentation offers my critique of the art world economy: 1. the movie is a free download, 2. The book is offered at a consumer price point, 3. the facsimile is offered at a collector price point, and 4. the original is priceless insofar as it is offered to an association of museums that will circulate and display it. A portion of income from sales made during the show will benefit the not-for-profits that present it. The facsimile edition is priced so that subsequent prints will cost one percent more than the preceding one. I will sign them in paint, photograph and database them to certify authenticity and provenance.A painting is a public relation and how it goes into and “sets” in the world is crucial to how it becomes meaningful. Museums will be offered the opportunity of exhibiting the original for a limited time and then sending it on to the next institution, such that the list of participating museums forms an association of ownership. Curators from the last three would be “trustees” who determine the next venue. If you would like one of the facsimiles or want to schedule the original to be exhibited at your institution contact me at 401-596-0208 or charlie@clufff.com. For more information download the pdf of the book, O My Goodness, the movie, O My Goodness, and the studio visit movie. These are large files and will take time to download.
